Services for Events

Accommodations are available for persons with disabilities as guests of the University. If you need an accommodation to attend an event, contact the department sponsoring the event and they will assist you with the accommodation that you need. Disability Concerns will assist departments in making your needed accommodations.

Hosting a University event, workshop, public presentation or departmental meeting? Is a participant or employee requesting accommodations?

Illinois State University provides equal opportunities and reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to enable full participation in and enjoyment of the available benefits, services, programs and activities. Disability Concerns will assist program units in providing accommodations for program participants. As a department, to ensure equal participation for individuals with disabilities please complete the following steps:

Step 1:

Registration materials and program announcements, which include bulletins, flyers, brochures, letters, public service announcements, or other materials used to inform the public of the event or program must also include the appropriate accessibility statement (s): Accessibility Statements for University Publications and Programs

Step 2:

Designate a contact person within your department to answer questions or accept accommodation requests for your event. Place that contact number on all materials concerning your event.

Step 3:

When you receive a request for an accommodation call Disability Concerns and request assistance with that accommodation. Often, there are accommodation questions/requests that your department may be able to answer or make without the assistance of Disability Concerns. Examples of these are: location of the accessible entrance, wheelchair seating availability, closer parking for mobility limitations, etc. Accommodation requests that require the assistance of Disability Concerns may include, but are not limited to, sign language interpreters, real-time captioning, or text in alternative format. If the request for an accommodation is one in which you require the assistance of Disability Concerns, call the office at 438-5853 and request assistance in making that accommodation. Disability Concerns will ask for all necessary information to complete the request. Requests for these accommodations must be submitted to Disability Concerns at least 5 business days prior to the event. If the request is not submitted within this timeframe, we are unable to guarantee that the accommodation can be placed.

If you need a sign language interpreter for your departmental event, click the link for the Sign Language Interpreter Request Form below and submit.
