Reduced Course Load with Full Time Status

A Reduced Course Load for undergraduate students must be no less than nine (9) hours each semester to maintain full time student status.  A Reduced Course Load for graduate students must be no less than six (6) hours each semester to maintain full time student status.  If the student drops below the required nine (9) hours for undergraduate or six (6) hours for graduate, the Reduced Course Load Status will no longer be in effect.  Students receiving the Reduced Course Load Status are held to the same requirements and standards for satisfactory academic progress as applies to other students.

Approval of the Reduced Course Load Status is not permanent and must be requested and re-evaluated each year.

Freshman or transfer students must register for a full course load in their first semester.

Application Deadlines for Reduced Course Load Status are June 15 for the Fall semester and November 15 for the Spring semester.

Procedures:

1. The student must complete the Request for Reduced Course Load Status Application available at the Disability Concerns Office.  Documentation supporting the request must accompany the Application.

2. Once the Application and Documentation have been received, the Reduced Course Load Status Committee will review the application and the documentation to determine if the student is eligible to receive the Reduced Course Load Status.

3.Once reviewed and a determination has been made, the student will be notified by Disability Concerns Office of the Committee’s decision.  If the student has been granted the Reduced Course Load status, the student will be asked to schedule an appointment with the Director or his/her designee.

 4. At the appointment, the Director or his/her designee will discuss with the student the requirements and ramifications of receiving the Reduced Course Load Status. The Director or his/her designee and the student may also meet with other departments to determine the impact of the status upon the student’s financial aid and degree program.

5. The student must then sign the Reduced Course Load Acceptance Form acknowledging that s/he has reviewed and accepts any possible individual consequences of a reduced course load.

6. Students utilizing the Reduced Course Load Status must meet with Departmental Advisors each semester to determine and maintain academic progress. Compliance with all University, College and Departmental policies and procedures regarding academic progress is mandatory, including University accepted academic progress and maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA.  If a student does not maintain these requirements, s/he is subject to a probationary academic status as all other students.

7. Some colleges and departments have maximum time limits to complete a degree program. If the student is facing such a time limit due to the receipt of a Reduced Course Load Status, the student is responsible for formally applying for an extension of time from the college, department or Graduate School as appropriate.

8. Students registered in cohort degree programs with specific time blocks and course completion formats will not be eligible for the Reduced Course Load Status.
